When we say at Fine Framers that we can meet any framing challenge, we mean it! There’s proof of that in how we’re currently doing large picture framing for the Lyrath Estate Hotel in Kilkenny.
The frames go up to a massive 10’ x 9’ in size. It would be a tough challenge for many to produce even one frame this size. But we’re doing FOURTEEN of them!
The frames are to be hung in a long corridor in the five-star castle hotel. We first worked with Lyrath’s interior designer to choose a frame moulding to complement the artwork they will hold. Then it was on to the challenge of making the frames themselves.
The biggest challenge in large picture framing such as this can be the sheer physical handling of the frames themselves. A lot of room is needed – but we are lucky to have sufficient room in our spacious workshop.
In addition, special attention has to be paid to the technique by which corner joints are made. To ensure adequate strength, we are first using a Hoffman router to machine dovetails in the mitred ends of each of the pieces of moulding. We are then inserting special wedges, combined with wood glue, to give a very robust joint.
It is this attention to detail which sets Fine Framers apart from others when it comes to large picture framing and other forms of custom picture framing. We are currently making good progress on this project. Both we and our clients at Lyrath are looking forward to soon seeing the frames hanging in the hotel.
