When we say at Fine Framers that we can frame anything, large or small, we really do mean it.
Sometimes there’s a challenge involved, but we always find a way to overcome it. We had an example of that lately, with a large frame picture hanging project that involved a print of a massive 7’x3’ in size.
Yes…seven feet by three feet. So, you could stand the picture on its end, put a professional basketball player beside it, and the picture would still have a few inches to spare!
We had to carefully consider this task, to guarantee the frame would stay in top condition well into the future. The danger was that because the selected moulding was of a relatively light cross-section, it could possibly have eventually ‘bowed’ over its long length if left unsupported.
To prevent this happening, we installed two vertical support batons at the back of the frame. We secured them solidly in position with L-plates to the moulding.
We also attached a set of ‘Z Bars’ to the completed frame (see picture above). This was to allow secure and easy installation to the customer’s wall.
The customer simply had to attach two Z Bars directly to the wall, and then lift the frame itself securely into position. This is a great method of large frame picture hanging, when it possible for the frame to rest flush on the wall.
A final consideration in this project was that we used acrylic instead of glass for the glazing. This was to keep the overall finished weight down.
The customer was delighted with the result of our work. The picture now hangs prominently in her home, and is proving to be a real talking point.
