At Fine Framers, we use a state of the art Epson Sure Color P9000 Giclee printer which is capable of producing print resolutions up to 1440 x 2880 dpi. and supports variable sized droplet technology as small as 3.5 picoliter. This is a lot higher dots per square inch resolution than normal Home Inkjet Printers, allowing a higher quality, less pixelated , finer image to be produced.
Similar to a home Inkjet printer, professional Giclee printers use the CMYK (Cyan, Magenta,Yellow, Black ) color processes, except that they feature more Ink cartridges. Our Printer uses a 10 channel printhead based on the CMYK color model but adding Light Magenta, Light Cyan, Green and Orange, as well as 3 levels of Black. This allows us to produce prints of unrivalled color accuracy with superior black and whites, exceptional color gamut and sublimely smooth gradient transitions.
Giclee Print
A Giclee print is a premium quality inkjet print. The word "Giclee" derives from the French word gicler, meaning " to squirt , spurt, or spray". The Colors on Giclee inkjet prints are produced by applying pure pigment inks directly to the paper. This achieves a very wide range of colors (known as Gamut) , especially the purer colors at the extreme end of the spectrum. This is particularly very effective on producing images with bright punch colors , making these colors really stand out. This professional Giclee printer uses 3 different tones of Grey and Black Ink so these inks can me supplied in pure form ( not creating blacks from combination of multiple colors ) so that exceptionally clean , color cast free Black and White prints are produced.
Smithsonian Photo Competition
The Smithsonian Institute use this same Epson Sure Color P9000 printer to print out all finalist's entries in their prestigious Annual Photographic Competition. See this printer in action here in this You Tube video. At Fine Framers, we can produce the same results for you.
Cotton papers
Today you can still find ‘rags’ from old clothing in recycled papers, however, for digital fine art printing only the highest quality cotton linters are sourced. Linters are short fibres found in cotton seeds which contain cellulose (found in wood pulp). This gives stability to the final sheet of paper and due to the cotton source, it produces a much softer feel on the surface when compared to 100% alpha cellulose papers. It also has better strength and durability than wood pulp papers. Cotton also has great archival qualities, and it is said that each percentage point of cotton contained in a paper represents one year of resisting deterioration over time. For example a 25% cotton paper will last for 25 years without showing signs of deterioration.
Our Papers
Here at Fine Framers, we have selected a range of 6 archival papers, by Innova. Each paper has different texture and color tones so you can select the perfect paper for your image. Innova fine art papers are all pH neutral, acid and lignin free, archival quality. They are made from the highest quality raw materials.
Innova papers have been tested for UV resistance and longevity on the blue wool scale, as specified by the UK Fine Art Trade Guild., and a selection of the FibaPrint® Range has been tested at FOGRA in Europe.
Enviornment
The Innova Art range of papers is wholly committed to preserving the environment for future generations. As such Innova Art ensure that all of the materials for the base of the papers are ethically sourced, maintaining the future of the world’s natural resources. The wood pulp used is chlorine free and originates from carefully managed, renewable forests. Many of their partners are fully FSC Chain Of Custody certified. This certification allows tracking of the wood pulp used in the papers back to the original forest it was sourced from, ensuring continued support for healthy, renewable, responsibly managed forests.
