Jersey framing and sports memorabilia framing are among the specialist services we provide at Fine Framers. We perform them with expertise and pride. We know that when somebody wants a jersey or other sporting equipment framed, then those items are special to them. At Fine Framers, we go to great lengths to treat them with the care they deserve. We ensure they can be fittingly displayed in a home, clubhouse, or any other setting for many years to come. Our jersey framing methods mean that jerseys and other items will not become damaged during the framing process or over time.
We do not employ short-cuts and cheaper methods that others use. These include packing the jersey tightly between the backboard and glass of the frame. This makes condensation come into contact with the jersey, causing it to rot. Nor do we use glues, tapes, or any other adhesives to mount the jersey. These too will cause irreparable damage. Spending a little extra on jersey framing at the start will pay off manifold in the future. It will maintain the jersey in pristine condition, so that it can hang proudly for many years. How to Present your Jersey We can offer you a host of ways to display your jersey in a frame, from the simple situation of framing just the jersey to the more complex situation of including other memorabilia with your jersey. For example , including some photos , Game tickets , Match program, or even medals may help to portray the complete story of the jersey being framed.
Folded Jersey
The simplest format is to fold the jersey over to keep it compact. This may not be an option for many signed jerseys. It will allow for a smaller frame and may suit where wall display space in limited.
Full Size Jersey
This is the most common way of displaying a signed sports jersey. You may choose a mount colour to complement the jersey and we most frequently use either a black or off white moulding and inner slip on these frames.
Jersey with Partial Top Mount
We frame many jerseys with a top mount , often containing photos , text or other item of interest. In some cases, we may incorporate just a partial top mount in a corner , as shown in the examples here.
Folded Jersey with Photos
We can partially fold your jersey and include some photos and text , yet maintaining the overall size of the frame as shown in the examples below,

If the complete jersey needs to be displayed with photos and text, we can arrange everything in a suitable layout and the overall frame size will be larger to accomodate all these elements.
Multiple Jerseys in a Frame
We can frame a collection of your favourite jerseys in a single frame. If the jersey is a very small size, the complete jersey may be shown. Otherwise the jerseys may be suitably folded and positioned for optimum display.
Jersey with Shorts
We can frame your jersey complete with a pair of shorts and have even framed some complete Lions Rugby Kit , to include the jersey, shorts. socks and boots with other special memorabilia, all in a large deep custom made frame.
Jersey with Medals

Hurling
This Jersey Framing project tells the full story of a hard won hurling victory. As well as the jersey , we also included the medal , the sliotar, photos and the team line up and a title text box , so that these memories are truly captured. A frame like this will take pride of place and is guaranteed to be a great conversation piece for many years to come.
Rugby
Here is an example including a couple of caps with the international jersey, with a title text box outlining the achievement. In these cases , we make a special deep frame to accommodate the depth of the caps and still providing the necessary air gap between the cap and the glass.
Sheep Shearing
We frame jerseys and tops from the full range of sports, including international sheep shearing. As well as a top and photos from the event in France, we've included an actual cutter head so the complete framed collection creates a great memory of the event.
Relay Racing
Adding an object of particular significance to that winning event when framing a top or jersey will make it unique and special .Here, when framing the runner's top , as well as narrative and photos of the willing team, we've included a baton from the race. -- A great memory is now preserved for enjoyment.
From the Newspapers
If a relevant article made the local or national newspaper why not include it also in the Jersey Framing project. This will create a greater interest in the framed jersey and completes the true picture of what was achieved. We can frame the original newspaper cutting or a photocopy of it, or indeed we can scan the newspaper article and then incorporate a print of the digital image which may give more options when designing the frame layout.
The good and bad of jersey framing
The examples below show the difference that using the correct process makes. We framed the Kilkenny GAA jersey using our expert techniques. You can see it is still in pristine condition. However, somebody else used shortcuts when framing the Ireland rugby jersey. These included using a cheap ready-made frame, and using just sticky tape to hold the jersey to the backboard. You can see the jersey is already sagging as it is not mounted properly. Furthermore, it is in direct contact with the glazing, so condensation will gather there over time and the jersey will rot.
We Don't use Double Sided Tape or Glues
When we frame Jerseys, we frame them so they will look good on your wall for many years to come. When many picture framers frame jerseys using double sided tape , it is certainly quick and easy to do but before long the adhesive will dry out and fail and then the jersey just falls down within the frame, as seen here on this framed jersey we received in for re-framing. We sew the jersey in position so it will not move.
Examples of Poor Quality Jersey Framing
All too often, we are presented with jerseys for reframing as a direct result of very poor quality picture framing workmanship. Unfortunately, there are some Picture Framers taking on the job of framing jerseys who simply don't know what they are doing. While they may succeed in presenting a visually pleasing finished project , after a short while the jersey may simply fall down within the frame. It will then become apparent that the framer has used inferior materials and methods and most frequently had damaged the jersey fabric by using adhesive tapes and glues. These 3 Photos are an example of a Jersey a customer brought us to reframe. The left photo shows how the Jersey became detached and fell down. The next photo shows how the jersey was attached to the mountboard with just bits of double sided tape. After a short period of hanging on a wall, the adhesive on the tape dries out and it gives way. The right photo shows how domestic Masking Tape was applied directly to the Jersey to keep it secure. Seeing a job like this is so disappointing.
In the case of Jersey framing, you may not be able to easily distinguish the difference between a job well done and one where short cuts have been taken simply by viewing the finished product........as the differences are as a result of the materials and techniques used in the framing process, inside the frame ! If you want your jersey framed properly, you should only employ a Picture Framer you can trust. Our jersey framing methods mean that jerseys and other items will not become damaged during the framing process or over time. So often, we have seen people shocked when we show them the internal assembly of their framed jersey. They paid good money to get their prized signed jersey framed only to discover afterwards that a very inferior framing job was done and now they have a jersey that has been damaged with glues , adhesive tapes and even rusting staples. When you consider jersey framing, the old adage "you get what you pay for " certainly applies . For most standard Jersey Frames , because we frame to conservation standards and give your jersey the care and attention you deserve, we will spend a total of approx 2 hours framing your jersey, and a lot more time on some of the more complex Jersey Framing designs.
Masking Tape
Here is another example of a Jersey Framed by a so-called Picture Framer. By applying this masking tape directly to the jersey to keep it in place, they have created long term irreparable damage to the Jersey Fabric. The residual glues deposited onto the fabric will cause the fabric to decay over time. This is an Ireland Rugby Jersey, signed by the full squad , for which the customer paid many € 100's . These costly and most often, items of great sentimental value deserve to be framed correctly....first time round ! To our Fine Art Trade Guild qualified Picture Framers, who frame all jerseys and fabrics to conservation standards, and who are proud of the framing projects they complete, seeing this type of work is simply shocking.
What you should not see on a framed Jersey.
Pins and Tags
Your jersey deserves to be framed properly. You should not see any pins or plastic tags on your framed jersey. These pics show examples of seriously shoddy work.....This is what you see , so just imagine what the areas in these frames that cannot be seen look like !!
Spacers Falling Apart
The photo on the left below shows an example of a common type of spacer used to create the air space between the glass and the frame. This is made of foamcore or mountboard glued to the inside rebate surface of the frame, but unfortunately, over time, the glue dries out and fails giving this unsightly mess. At Fine Framers, we use a much superior method on our jersey frames, shown on the photo on the right, where instead, we precision make an additional internal wood "slip" frame that fits securely in this space.....It cannot fail !
Expert jersey framing technique
Our jersey framing technique sees us:
- Insert conservation-quality foam board, to ‘stiffen’ the jersey prior to framing and to prevent it from sagging in the future
- Hand-stitch the jersey to this foam board
- Place the Jersey with inserted foam board against a mount board that is acid-free, to prevent harmful material leeching into the jersey over time
- Hand-stitch the foam board to the backboard
- Leave sufficient space between the jersey and glass, to prevent damage caused by condensation
- Offer a choice of regular or specialty glass for the frame. Choices include a reflection control glass, to enhance visual impact; UV-resistant glass, to combat the long-term effect of harmful rays from the sun; or a combination of these in premium ‘museum glass’
- We also offer acrylic glazing as an alternative to glass, suitable for public locations where breakage is a possibility

Our in-house experts will lay all items out in the best manner possible to tell the story behind the frame, and then proceed to frame the display when you are happy with everything involved.

- Rugby star Sean O’Brien’s appearance for the British & Irish Lions versus Australia in the 2013 Lions tour (a large display featuring his jersey, shorts, socks and boots)
- A Barcelona FC fan’s trip to the Nou Camp stadium where he had jerseys signed by superstar Lionel Messi and several other players
- A young hurler’s first season with his local club, featuring his jersey, hurl, boots, and photos from his first-ever training session
- The Kilkenny All-Ireland senior hurling champions...of several years of the Brian Cody era!
Sporting medals we have framed include the Olympic bronze medal won by showjumper Cian O’Connor at the London Games of 2012, and multiple All-Ireland senior hurling medals.
We recommend that a name plate and/or title plate is added to each jersey framing or sports memorabilia framing project, to help further keep the memory alive and to immediately identify to others what exactly it is you are commemorating.
Details can be printed on plain paper for insertion within the interior mount, or etched onto a metal plate that can either go within the display or on the frame itself. There are ten different metal plate options available: grained silver, mirrored silver, stain silver, grained gold, mirrored gold, shiny champagne, matt champage, white, steel, and copper.
Pricing Of Jersey Framing
So how much will it cost you to get us to frame your jersey ?
Jerseys vary hugely, as does the wide range of framing possibilities for your jersey as can be seen from the framed examples above. We can only give you an exact price for framing your jersey once we have an opportunity to see the jersey, measure it and decide with you what is the best layout.
As well as deciding what other items you may want to include in the frame, you should also consider what narrative text should be added , either in a text box on the mount or on a metal plate directly on the wood moulding. You can choose either Float Glass, Non Reflective Glass , UV Glass , Museum Glass or Acrylic as your preferred glazing.
